hahahahahaha!!!!!!!! 50 years on and Vietnam is still beating America’s ass !!!!!!!!!!

uh huh

You know how china lies?

Vietnam does the same shit.

unlike the government of the good ol’ US of A, who would never lie to us.

There is a difference between china who always lies, and the USA who often lies but iui s capable of telling the truth.

Vietnam? Which has been shifting back from a planned economy to an open market over the past 34 years? The country that’s faced economic growth by EMBRACING private ownership?

I mean, regardless of if they’re lying or not, I don’t really think they are the hard socialist nation the tankies want to make the US into.

Apparently offering to do something is the same as actually being able to do it.

It’s funny how the tankies are smug about panic-buying shortages in the US when they’ve spent the past few years ignoring much worse permanant shortages in countries like Venezuela.

>Governments must resist calls from some quarters to protect their own food supply by restricting exports, he said, as some have begun to do. …  Vietnam, the world’s third biggest rice exporter, has temporarily suspended rice export contracts.

Ooops.

https://chaohanoi.com/2020/02/08/hanoi-supermarket-shelves-empty-due-to-panic-buying/

>Many supermarkets across Hanoi have empty shelves due to panic buying over the coronavirus outbreak. DTI News has reported that many shops and small markets have run out of food as local people have been bulk buying products so they can self-quarantine in their homes for long periods.

Double Ooops.

Keeping in mind, of course, that even panic buying means someone is getting supplies and not having to wait for the low hanging fruit in government to decide to give it to them. Also, don’t we know that all governments lie? Free people in a nation are able to hold their governors accountable. That’s a pretty big difference.

Also, don’t we know that all governments lie? Free people in a nation are able to hold their governors accountable.

then fucking do that idiot, over 40,000 people have already died because of the united states bungling this,  are you going to do anything about it? are you going to hold the ruling class accountable?

If need be, absolutely. The real question is how much liberty are we going to lose in a short term effort intended save lives that are likely to be lost anyway? This virus isn’t going away, that possibility was squandered in China. “Flattening the curve” is not eliminating the curve, or the cause of the curve. The point of this particular back and forth is that folks, like you, have glammed onto this situation as a way to tout oppressive governments.

the “oppression” of having free health care and managing to get the pandemic under control, as vietnam has. The Horror.

you’re so obsessed with this false dichotomy between the existing attempt by america to get the virus under control- social distancing, etc- and doing nothing, that you completely forgot about other approaches such as “testing, providing adequate support to people who are infected, free health care, re-allocating labor toward building new hospitals to care for people instead of just having people sit at home,” etc.

you’re talking about the question of choosing between lives and liberty: what if i told you you don’t need to choose and you can just have a free healthcare system and a democratically planned economy and just be done with this shit already. which is what this post is about.

at any rate i love the implication that it was meaningfully possible for china to have quarentined an extremely contagious flu so well that it simply went away entirely never spread to any other countries ever. i’m sure you consistently apply this metric at all times, and always, infallibly, call for countries where pandemics originated to be punished. i’m sure, for example, you also apply this metric to the spanish flu. haha.

On this day, 22 April 1944, 200 African-Americans, mostly students at Howard University, held a sit-in demonstration at Thompson’s, a segregated restaurant in Washington DC – where Jim Crow laws were not in effect but segregation by custom existed. After effectively slashing the number of paying customers, the restaurant was ordered by its headquarters to begin serving African-Americans.
The University, in fear of losing federal grants, subsequently directed its students to cease direct action and Thompson’s promptly restored segregation.
One of the key organisers of the action was Pauli Murray, pictured, a young student and activist, who identified as part male and part female, and whose romantic relationships were with women.
