Over the past couple of days, numerous advisers both inside and outside the White House have urged the president to tone down his violent rhetoric, which many worry could escalate racial tensions and hurt him politically.
Behind the scenes: The biggest source of internal concern was Trump’s escalatory tweet, “when the looting starts, the shooting starts.” Some advisers said it could damage him severely with independent voters and suburban women.
After not going to sleep until the early hours of Friday morning, President Trump woke to a string of conversations with advisers who told him he had a problem.
They aren’t appealing to any higher instincts. They are working to trick people for his campaign, and it’s a vertiginous effort.
“People close to the [troll], including several senior White House officials, have privately expressed concerns that his incendiary response to the Minneapolis riots will hurt him with two groups that could remove him from office in November: independents and suburban women. These are groups who already tell pollsters they don’t like Trump’s tone, even if they like some of his policies.
…"After walking back his looting/shooting tweet, [t]rump tripled down on this incendiary tone in a series of Saturday morning tweets, suggesting that protesters outside the White House would have been ‘greeted with the most vicious dogs, and most ominous weapons’ if they breached the fence.
…”[t]rump added: ‘Tonight, I understand, is MAGA NIGHT AT THE WHITE HOUSE???’ — a tweet that seemed to encourage a clash between his supporters and the predominantly African American protesters outside the White House.“
Later, they must have refreshed trump’s understanding of a post-election type of bunker not guarded by Secret Service, called a “cell,” and got him to render this soundbite:
“'I understand the pain that people are feeling. We support the right of peaceful protestors, and we hear their pleas.’”
A robotic dog could fetch this sentiment more effectively.
“Nobody who knows [t]rump would pretend the tone of these scripted remarks is sustainable on a daily or even hourly basis.”
Finally my crocodile dragon sculpture is finished. This has taken 30-40 hours and its made out of super sculpy. The next step will be to bake and paint.
On this day, 31 May 1927, Fred Trump, the father of US president Donald Trump, was arrested at a rally of the Ku Klux Klan in Queens, New York.
He was initially arrested for “refusing to disperse” along with six other people after the rally descended into disorder. The Long Island Daily Press reported that all seven arrestees were wearing Klan robes.
After Donald Trump was endorsed by David Duke, the former grand wizard of the Ku Klux Klan, Trump was questioned about his father’s arrest. Donald claimed to journalist Jason Horowitz that “it never happened”, despite it being reported in several newspapers. When Horowitz asked Trump if the address reported for his father in the newspapers, 175-24 Devonshire Rd, was accurate, Donald dismissed it as “totally false”. However Fred Trump’s wedding announcement in the Daily Press listed his address at 175-24 Devonshire Rd.
Fred Trump was subjected to legal action by the Justice Department on multiple occasions for racist behaviour as a landlord, and one of his former tenants, folk singer Woody Guthrie once wrote in a song mentioning Trump: “I suppose / Old Man Trump knows / Just how much / Racial Hate / He stirred up”.

We have lots of other anniversaries today. For all of them each day, follow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/wrkclasshistory https://www.facebook.com/workingclasshistory/photos/a.296224173896073/1439321772919635/?type=3
I was corrected on Twitter by someone from the community — they’re actually Old Order Mennonites! Although they follow that ‘plain living’ doctrine that the Amish do, they also carefully allow technology into their communities. Televisions are one of the few pieces of modern tech that’s allowed in certain Mennonite sects. The Mennonites and Quakers are no nonsense when it comes to oppression of any kind. Google more about them and you’ll quickly find out that it’s no surprise they showed up. They always show up.
YALL THE AMISH CAME OUT ❤️❤️❤️
after hurricane sandy, mennonites came through Far Rockaway, NY and rebuilt houses and Black churches that were devastated for free, the ones i’ve met have always been down to do real work for the cause
I don’t why, but my posts here have the form of WIPs all the time, I hope you like it, I myself like to see how artist creates drawing or animation. =)
