Pretending anti-lockdown people didn’t warn you this exact thing would happen if you shut down states and their economies
We ignored “anti-lockdown” people because you’re stupid as fuck
The lockdown was necessary. Far, far more people would have died of COVID, and have died of COVID because the US government rescinded the lockdown far too early, than people have committed suicide.
What we should have done is have the government give monthly stimulus checks to everyone living in the US, enough to cover basic needs such as rent and food and other bills, so the lockdown doesn’t cause anyone to lose their homes in the middle of a pandemic. That way everyone can stop working, and thus limit the spread of the disease.
The next step would have been to implement universal healthcare, or at bare minimum free testing for COVID and healthcare for those afflicted, so no one would have to go bankrupt, or worse, die of preventable causes.
Instead, we all got $1,200 and the country only locked down for a few months at best; everyone who catches it has to either pay ridiculous fees, or die; those who survive end up with debilitating heart and lung damage. No one is getting tested because getting tested requires medical insurance, and actually doing anything about it if you test positive also requires medical insurance. And worse, people are deliberately going out and about without masks, without washing their hands, and without practicing social distancing, because a disease has become a political stance.
Seriously people, wear masks over your nose. Wash your hands every time before and after you go outside, and use hand sanitizer if you touch something that someone else has touched. Don’t put your hands near your face until after you’ve properly washed or sanitized them. Be careful, because it’s pretty damn obvious that the US government doesn’t give a damn whether you live or die, and neither do the morons who downplay the pandemic.
“Far, far more people would have died of COVID, and have died of COVID because the US government rescinded the lockdown far too early, than people have committed suicide.”
Just say you hate the proles and go.
lmao bro wtf is this, “appeal to probability”? like “uhm excuse me you can’t say something is likely to happen just because it’s likely to happen :/ will our boat sink if we cut a hole in the bottom? no way to know, better act like the outcomes of our actions are completely unknowable” this is the weakest attempt at using the rhetorical tool of a supposed “logical fallacy” as a thought-terminating cliche.
and what’s wild is it’s like the only possibilities you’re able to consider are either A: no lockdown or B: lockdown with no assistance when like… there’s absolutely nothing preventing the implementation of a lockdown with adequate assistance so that working class people will still be able to cover their expenses and actually shelter in place, and that is in fact what happened in Vietnam, which because of this was able to actually get the virus under control and re-open months ago (not to mention the role free testing and healthcare played in this):
