On this day, 15 February 2004, rioting broke out in the Sydney suburb of Redfern, Australia, following the death of Thomas “TJ” Hickey, a 17 year old Aboriginal Australian, the previous day. Hickey’s family and the local community claim that he was being chased by a police vehicle when his bicycle was either clipped by the vehicle or crashed and he was killed after being impaled on a fence. Police claim they just happened to be driving by when a freak bike accident occurred, to widespread disbelief. But officers did lift Hickley off the fence, which goes against standard first-aid practices as it can cause people to bleed to death. Around 100 people, mostly Aboriginal young people, but with some other supporters, angry at the death and police harassment in general, took to the streets and attacked officers with rocks, petrol bombs and fireworks. Clashes continued until the following morning. Many subsequent protests were also held demanding justice, and the dropping of charges against those arrested during the riots. https://www.facebook.com/workingclasshistory/photos/a.296224173896073/1652545484930595/?type=3
remember all the lies you’ve been told about how trumpism is a populist, “working class” movement? lmao
the crimes of bourgeoisie reactionaries will always be pinned on the working class people those very same bourgeoisie leech off of.
but you know what’s really incredible? the more i think over this clip?
you can tell he doesn’t even realize how much he’s exposing himself and the rest of his movement here. he thinks he’s bragging about being a Salt Of The Earth Middle Class Guy.
because you can tell that in his worldview, business owners- guys who own car dealerships, auto shops, restaurants, etc- are Hard Working Job Creators. the employees of those businesses though? the people who actually generate the value those businesses profit off of? well, we’re barely even human in his worldview. why, we don’t even create jobs. we merely work at the jobs he and the rest of his class so graciously create for us.
like there’s such a huge gulf between what he think’s he’s saying when he says “we’re the business owners” and what he’s actually saying.
This blog is mostly so I can vent my feelings and share my interests. Other than that, I am nothing special.
If you don't like Left Wing political thought and philosophy, all things related to horror, the supernatural, the grotesque, guns or the strange, then get the fuck out. I just warned you.
