On this day, 26 February 1978, protesters angry at the construction of the Narita airport in Japan battled riot police outside Narita City Hall. It was part of a years-long, often violent campaign against construction of the airport which would displace large numbers of local farmers. https://www.facebook.com/workingclasshistory/photos/a.296224173896073/1660165177501959/?type=3

Hey I’m abt to talk abt religious child abuse so if you’re not up for that keep scrolling
Not to be That Guy ™ yet again but the tag “trainupachild” is a reference to a fundamentalist Christian parenting book that basically recommends beating your child for basically everything and has resulted in child death.
That kid isn’t doing that bc he’s just organically come about this great love for god—he’s doing that because literally dramatic displays of “grace”, ESPECIALLY PUBLICLY in ways that can bring their guardians praise, is one of the few things that will give him a positive response from his guardians
like I get it—we wanna dunk on the mom for being obnoxious, but knowing exactly what that tag means has me absolutely nauseous
Train Up A Child advises parents to use plastic tubes to beat them with because they are less likely to leave marks that might lead to CPS calls. It also says belts and branches are good for places that can’t be seen but does caution to use a “willowy” branch if the child is under the age of one.
Yes, they advocate for hitting infants with sticks
I have read parts of To Train Up a Child (out of curiosity) … The whole thesis is that you should “break [the child’s] will” early and “dominate” them by any means necessary, resulting in children too afraid and abused to act out. It’s one of the most monstrous things I’ve ever seen put to paper.
Children have died because of that book.
Again, this is why I say that Republican/fundie parents specifically need to be politically marginalized to the point of never being able to determine public policy, because they as a group are one of the biggest structural enablers of child abuse in this country.
Like, did you know that the fundie homeschooling movement is one of the main reasons we in the US didn’t ratify the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, or a lot of anti-child-abuse laws?
Huh, I wonder why that is…
…God these people deserve to burn.

The Defense Department says U.S. military forces have conducted airstrikes against infrastructure used by militant groups in eastern Syria. The strikes are a response to recent attacks against Americans in Iraq, and the department calls the strikes a “proportionate military response.”
Biden just carried out the first military action of his presidency against what the DoD claims were Iran-backed militias in Syria.
