workingclasshistory:

On this day, 10 March 1896, surrealist writer, model, anarchist and lifelong anti-racist Nancy Cunard was born in the UK. Born into the Cunard shipping dynasty, she was disinherited due to her relationship with Henry Crowder, an African-American pianist. Cunard extensively published the writings of African-Americans, including Langston Hughes, and was a dedicated anti-fascist. She wrote extensively on Mussolini’s invasion of Ethiopia, helped refugees from the Spanish civil war and worked tirelessly as a translator for the French resistance during World War II.
