remember all the lies you’ve been told about how trumpism is a populist, “working class” movement? lmao
the crimes of bourgeoisie reactionaries will always be pinned on the working class people those very same bourgeoisie leech off of.
but you know what’s really incredible? the more i think over this clip?
you can tell he doesn’t even realize how much he’s exposing himself and the rest of his movement here. he thinks he’s bragging about being a Salt Of The Earth Middle Class Guy.
because you can tell that in his worldview, business owners- guys who own car dealerships, auto shops, restaurants, etc- are Hard Working Job Creators. the employees of those businesses though? the people who actually generate the value those businesses profit off of? well, we’re barely even human in his worldview. why, we don’t even create jobs. we merely work at the jobs he and the rest of his class so graciously create for us.
like there’s such a huge gulf between what he think’s he’s saying when he says “we’re the business owners” and what he’s actually saying.
This is my problem with the more or less meaningless term ‘middle class’. It obscures the meaning of class from ‘relationship to the means of production’ to ‘a vague sense of your income level’.
It allows business owners and landlords to be in the same ‘class’ as working class people who earn relatively high wages. And professional working class people as well as high-earning working class people will even start to support bourgeois interests, while owners of means will consider themselves ‘salt of the earth’.
It is time to organize. It is past time to organize. Time is an illusion but the countdown to total ecological collapse is real.
It doesn’t matter where you’re from, what language you speak, what prayers you recite or rituals you perform, what grind you clock into, we need you in this struggle. There is a place for you in this fight and there is a lot of work to do.
Are you disabled? Are you neuroatypical?
We need you.
Are you unemployed? Are you a sex worker? Are you retired?
We need you.
No apologies, you cannot sit this one out. The raging fires, the rising waters, the marching fascism is coming and will kill us all the same regardless of your or my thoughts and intentions.
There is good news: the more of us who stand up and fight, the less the burden falls on individuals.
I am being realistic when I say a solid decade of real organizing is all it could take to dramatically shift our material reality for the better. The drive for worker power is gaining speed in places where it has been suppressed the worst. We must take this momentum and build on it. What we need to build is structure.
Do you have a committee at your job? You need one. Are you and your fellow workers building grass roots power, real power, the kind that can shut it down? You gotta start.
Do you know your fellow workers like you know yourself?
Where do they live? How do they get to work? When do they need to get up? What burdens them? Who is addicted? Who smokes? Whose kids are having trouble? Who lost family to COVID? Who is respected? Who is good at what they do?Who is a leader? Who knows whom? Who gossips? Who is reliable?Who is a shill for the boss?
Do you know your place of work intimately? Have you mapped it?
Where are the cameras? Where are the bosses? Where do shipments come in? Where does mail go out? Where is the time clock? Where are the computers? Where is storage? Where would a hard picket line hurt the business the most? Where are the choke points?
Are you meeting regularly with fellow workers on strategy? Are you discovering grievances and demands that could be won?
Every win builds power.
Are you working together on ways to improve conditions? Not every fight needs a picket or a march or a strike. Are you discovering small ways to solve problems and organizing around that?
You need to start.
If you’re a worker, you make this world. We all make this world what it is and we should never forget that we can make it different if we want to badly enough.
We have to.
It’s a big job but you won’t ever do it alone. That is the whole point. I am organizing beside you, beside thousands of fellow workers in a long legacy that dates back to when the first worker threw down their tool and said “No.”
It’s organizing-o-clock. Join up, pay your dues, get trained and get organizing.
This blog is mostly so I can vent my feelings and share my interests. Other than that, I am nothing special.
If you don't like Left Wing political thought and philosophy, all things related to horror, the supernatural, the grotesque, guns or the strange, then get the fuck out. I just warned you.
