Are all men from the future loud-mouthed braggarts? Nope. Just me, baby, just me.
Army of Darkness (1992) dir. Sam Raimi
On this day, 27 May 1991, 14 year old Laotian boy Konerak Sinthasomphone was murdered by serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer after being handed over to him by Milwaukee police.
(Content note: sexual violence, homophobia)
Sinthasomphone had been lured to Dahmer’s apartment the previous day with the promise of money. There, he was drugged, then Dahmer drilled a hole in his head and injected hydrochloric acid into his brain and began sexually assaulting him. Dahmer used acid in such a way as to put his victims in a “zombie-like” state and be unable to resist him.
Despite this, miraculously Sinthasomphone managed to escape the apartment, naked and bleeding, where he was seen by two Black women, Sandra Smith and Nicole Childress who promptly called police. Four officers arrived, who were all white, but Dahmer, who was also white and well spoken, told them Sinthasomphone was a drunk adult houseguest, despite him being only 5’ 3 and weighing 110 pounds. In his drugged and brain-damaged state, Sinthasomphone was unable to speak for himself, despite knowing English fluently. Smith tried to tell the officers that Dahmer had given different fake names for Sinthasomphone, and that the boy appeared to be trying to escape from Dahmer. But they not only disregarded her words, they threatened to arrest her, causing her to have to flee.
The officers also failed to check Dahmer’s ID, which would have confirmed that he was a child molester, convicted for abusing Sinthasomphone’s brother. Instead, they escorted him back to the murderer’s apartment, where they also apparently did not notice the smell of the other bodies which were decaying in the premises. The officers then went on their way, making homophobic jokes.
Two of the police were subsequently fired but then reinstated, and continued to work for police forces until 2017 and 2019 respectively.
Dahmer went on to murder four other people after the incident. https://www.facebook.com/workingclasshistory/photos/a.296224173896073/1726254110893065/?type=3
