At least 200,000 people, including thousands of children, were killed by the atom bombs dropped on Hiroshima on Aug. 6, 1945, and Nagasaki three days later. Even decades later people died from radiation-caused illnesses.
The excuse for the Manhattan Project was that the U.S. had to “beat Hitler” at developing the atom bomb. This was the reason given to scientists like the young physicist and future Nobel Prize winner Richard Feynman. But the real target of the Manhattan Project was the Soviet Union.
On this day, 6 August 1970, up to 300 Yippies - countercultural radical youth - invaded Disneyland, protesting against the Vietnam war and calling for the liberation of Minnie Mouse from patriarchal captivity. Disney brought in extra security, and 150 armed riot police in preparation for the event: a theatrical “convention” called by the Youth International Party, whose members were nicknamed Yippies.
The youths initiated a few provocations, including commandeering a raft to invade Fort Wilderness, openly smoking pot, snake-dancing down Main Street USA and demonstrating outside the in-park Bank of America branch before they were either arrested or expelled from the park.

bring this back … single parents shouldnt have to work and pay for childcare, especially when the government today foots the bill for childcare provided the parent is working. they could literally just give parents that money instead of creating a race to bottom childcare situation where the aim is to provide the cheapest care just so parents can work.
we’ve already had a time in this country where parents received money to raise their kids while not having to work.

The rise in multi-level marketing scams, especially during corona can also be traced back to mothers trying to find a way to make money while staying at home with their kids
we can eliminate a lot of predatory businesses (in terms of both childcare, and job paths) by simply paying parents and allowing them to stay home with their infants who do actually need constant care
we have already done this as a country it is not a new idea.
