workingclasshistory:

On this day, 18 October 1977, the Red Army Faction (aka the Baader-Meinhof group) killed Martin Schleyer, former Nazi war criminal and SS officer who was also head of the German Employers Association known for his tough opposition to unions and strikes. He had been kidnapped by the group demanding an exchange for 11 RAF prisoners. However when three of the prisoners were found dead, the RAF shot Schleyer. Schleyer had served time as a prisoner of war for his SS activities, but he got a shorter sentence by lying about his rank and pretending to be more junior than he was.
We have made available this extensive, two-volume documentary history of the RAF here: https://shop.workingclasshistory.com/collections/all/red-army-faction

Democracy is not an ornament to be used for decoration. It is to be used to solve the problems that the people want to solve.

President Xi Jinping at a central conference on work related to people’s congresses, held from Oct 13 to Oct 14 in Beijing

this is particularly poignant after hearing Jen Psaki (the white house press correspondent) describe the current deadlock caused by Manchin and Sinema (who represent a tiny fraction of the US population) over the Burn spending bill as “democracy working.” well Jen, if this really is democracy at work, I think I’ll take Chinese “”“authoritarianism”“” 😂

“You are told you have the power because you have the numbers. Never make so silly a blunder as to suppose that power resides in numbers. One good, level-headed policeman with a club is worth ten excited, unarmed men; one detachment of well-drilled militia has a power equal to that of the greatest mob that could be raised in New York City.

(…) Strive, then, for power.”

–Voltairine de Clayre. “In Defense of Emma Goldmann” (1894)

I guess we’re rebranding imperialist white saviorism as “using your first world white privilege to protect poor POC gays” now

dear 1st world gay, yes 2 things can coexist but that doesn’t mean they r equal priority. being invaded is not a ‘minor international slight 2 national pride’. having ur country’s opportunities, ur ppl’s futures stolen is not a ‘minor international slight’

the global south’s resources r literally being plundered by the west as we sit here but apparently we’re not allowed 2 call attention 2 the fact that all this is happening largely under the watch of the us military industrial complex

‘support 4 women, gays, n minorities’ is just an excuse 4 continued imperialism. we can talk w u human 2 human on how 2 fix things, but ur peach egos r so easily bruised, u can’t even bear 2 hear our side of the story. this is y ‘karen’ is a white

An lgbt* us soldier is still an imperialist war dog no amount of pink coding is going to change that.

What are the sources for the gender science books? Never heard about that

one of if not the first public book burning the nazists performed was the burning of the archives of the institut für sexualwissenschaft (institute for sexual science) in berlin in 1933. the institute was a pioneering organisation for what we would today call lgbt people and from it sprung the first european gay rights movement during the weimar republic in between the world wars. the institute is remarkable for having performed some of the earliest hormone replacement treatments and the first sexual reassignment surgeries, and acted simultaneously as a research centre, a medical clinic, and as a social gathering space.

Doctor Magnus Hirschfeld (Z’‘L) who headed the institute was himself a remarkable individual, and is the person who first coined the word transsexual. virtually everyone connected to the institute were later either forced into exile, sentenced to concentration camps, or outright executed, and the nazists did their best to totally erase the movement that sprung from the institute from history.
