On this day, 14 January 1930, communist gangster Albrecht “Ali” Höhler shot Horst Wessel, a unit leader of Berlin’s Nazi stormtroopers (SA), who died as a result of his injuries on February 23.
Höhler was a member of the German Communist Party’s paramilitary organisation the Roter Frontkämpferbund (League of Red Front Fighters).
After his death, Wessel was raised to the position of martyr by the Nazis, while Höhler was sentenced to six years in jail for manslaughter, only to be dragged out and murdered once the Nazis came to power.

Teachers across France staged a one-day walkout on Thursday to protest changing Covid testing rules that they say have disrupted classes and are now too lax to protect against the Omicron variant that is tearing across the nation.

Many teachers’ unions also planned protest marches, with one of the largest expected to start in Paris on Thursday afternoon.

Funny how we usually only hear about anti-mask and anti-vax protests in Europe.

Love the American healthcare system where I’m getting a colonoscopy, a totally routine procedure, and have no idea how much it will cost me until I get the bill because 1) I don’t know what medications or supplies will be administered during the procedure until they shoot me up and 2) I don’t know what the cost of those medications and supplies will be because the hospital’s prices and the insurance’s plan allowance are both secret
