On this day, 22 January 1891, Italian Marxist philosopher Antonio Gramsci was born in Sardinia. Gramsci’s most important contribution to the workers’ movement was his theory of hegemony, which describes how the capitalist class maintains its power most of the time not through open violence and repression but through ideology and its domination of culture.
We have designed a range of merch commemorating Gramsci to help fund our work. Check it out here: https://shop.workingclasshistory.com/collections/all/antonio-gramsci https://www.facebook.com/workingclasshistory/photos/a.296224173896073/1905186489666492/?type=3
