Ranched red fox vs. a large wild red. This ranched fox is one of the largest I’ve worked on and measures up pretty well to this big old wild man even though he was much younger. Farmed red foxes tend to be larger than their wild counterparts, with slightly shorter muzzles and overall broader s.kulls. Fur farming stated around the late 1800s and though the colors can be incredibly varied compared to wild reds, they haven’t changed much morphologically. There are many articles and videos talking about these “domestic” foxes. However, they are not domesticated animals. They’ve been selectively bred for tameness, but have not been domesticated like dogs/cats/etc. The ranched red is one I recently finished for a client.
