On this day, 15 March 1919, thousands of women in Egypt marched in protest against the British occupation. In particular the arrest and deportation to Malta of Saad Zaghlul, a prominent Egyptian politician, and several other activists caused widespread outrage, and boosted anti-colonial sentiment. It was an early event in the Egyptian revolution which would eventually topple British rule. https://www.facebook.com/workingclasshistory/photos/a.296224173896073/1942227559295718/?type=3

can’t get over all these motherfuckers saying hitler was good because he only killed people they hate, but they try to reword it like

“hitler only killed people who weren’t ethnically german” like, so all those jewish and rromani people who were german dont count? all those disabled people? gay people? political dissidents? not german?

and you call them out on it and they just continue to rephrase nazi talking points in a way tepid liberals can stomach enough to share and reproduce.

gonna be real with you, if you’re making a comparison about war today and the holocaust, and you’re showing hitler in a good light? thats nazi apologism, full stop.

war breaks and everyone pulls out their swastika tbh, don’t pull one out to share proudly as well by making nazis seem harmless or good if you’re truly against fascism and nazism.

In Ancient Egypt, compared to many other ancient cultures, women had it pretty well off. They were fairly equal in all things except for their occupations where men were in positions of authority like part of the government, the king, a general, and head of the family, and women worked in domestic spheres. With that being said, women still held considerable autonomy, power and authority. Women could marry who they wanted then choose to divorce them, they could hold land and property, travel, and to some extent, choose their profession. Not to mention female deities oversaw important responsibilities in Ancient Egyptian religion or, as it is known today, mythology.

It was not only as clergy (like the God’s Wife of Amun) that women could hold respected positions in society, no! Once a woman completed her training and became a scribe, they could choose to become a priestess but they could also become a teacher or a physician, in fact, female doctors were highly respected in ancient Egypt. However, becoming a scribe was long, hard work so most men and women who became scribes probably came from a family of scribes and followed the occupation of their mother or father.
