thread by @sallyhunt666 on twitter Mass shootings won't stop, sadly, at least not until we completely restructure society. We're in late- stage capitalism. Despair leads to violence. Hyper-capitalism/hyper- individualism creates hopelessness and a feeling of isolation, alienation, & intense anger at society,... 1/ALT
...which leads to nihilism and oftentimes a desire for revenge at the world around you. Capitalism breeds violence. It's all about valuing & rewarding greed, selfishness, and cruelty. Capitalism breeds violence. 2/ALT
Capitalism's all about valuing & rewarding greed, selfishness, and cruelty. This society/system has created a lack of connectedness to one another. When each person is only looking out for themselves & doesn't feel connected to—or cared about by —the rest of society at large, 3/ALT
...it creates intense feelings of isolation, anger, and despair. This is to be expected when it seems that no one really cares about you, your suffering, or even whether you live or die. This is the society we in the United States have chosen to create. 4/ALT
Capitalism is a hierarchical, classbased system that requires poverty of an underclass. It requires that the majority of people are forced to suffer and struggle to make ends meet and survive. 5/ALT
The U.S. is a special kind of fucked up, racist, classist, cruel, greedy, selfish country of constant state violence and also a police/carceral state of mass incarceration, abuse, oppression, exploitation, and VIOLENCE against the masses of working class people. 6/ALT
We have a severe lack of resources, opportunities, or support systems for working class people. We are the only developed country without singlepayer/universal healthcare, FFS—and of course that includes a lack of mental healthcare for people in need. 기ALT
This country is, and always has been a shithole—a country that has always functioned only for the super-rich, powerful capitalists. The masses of people are forced to suffer & struggle each day just to survive. ☺ Our society is very ill. 8ALT

twitter thread by Daniel Baryon @AnarkYouTube: Given another horrifying massacre, we have returned to the gun discourse. But, as usual, it seems that no one is discussing the elephant in the room: we live in an intensely alienated society based around violence worship and full-on brainwashing by hierarchical power structures.ALT
The US is a terrifying mixture of hierarchical mentalities run wild, extraordinary exploitation, a completely shredded social fabric, and a constant, looming knowledge of the nigh-apocalyptic destruction that the machine we live within is causing to the planet.ALT
Living in the US is living every day in a bizarre juxtaposition: between knowing you benefit from a system of domestic and global extraction and yet somehow no structure in your society seems to give a single shit about you.ALT
All this leads to a constant, low-level anxiety about the way things are. For most people, they don't even know why they feel the way they do. They just know their life is miserable and it seems like it shouldn't be. And the power structure has many outlets for that anxiety.ALT
White supremacy is extremely operative in duping white people who are experiencing this alienation. It's the bread and butter of the US. It takes this resentment and funnels it toward those who are even worse off, reinforcing the very system that alienated them to begin with.ALT
But it goes further than that. Living in the belly of this hierarchical machine, we are brainwashed by every single flow to relish our position in the hierarchy. We come to believe that it is through dominating others that we will stop feeling helpless and alienated.ALT
We are told that, if we can become the dominator, we will escape these feelings of anxiety, and resentment, and alienation; that we will find a place within society where we belong, that we will no longer feel impotent and aimless and afraid.ALT
This resentment at impotence sometimes manifests in an unadulterated desire to dominate others. They don't even care if they find a place. They don't care if they are killed. Their mind can only function on hatred and desire to control; even if for the duration of a massacre.ALT
These massacres are a pure representation of the core lessons that are taught to the people: you are only valuable insofar as you can dominate others. To be good is to stand on the necks of other people. Don't feel guilty. Relish it.ALT
Liberals will focus on guns, because they have no intention of really changing this society of alienation and extraction and exploitation. The conservatives will focus on the culture war or some other distraction because they are slavering demons who feed on the suffering.ALT

original twitter thread here

#that first thread is real ableist in its unedited state tho #but in a way that just reinforces the point that capitalism is so thorough in poisoning our souls that one can so easily engage in its violent oppression of the marginalized #even when condemning itALT
#another thing is that liberal always only focus on civilian gun control #but ignore that even with strict gun control the police would still be super militarized #gun violence in the us won't stop with fun control cause gun control never goes hand in hand with police demilitarization #which also again speaks to the structural problems that the state and capitalism are causing/feeding that cause these alienated feelings #that result in these horrific acts of violenceALT
