Struggle-La Lucha statement
The public hearings of the House Committee to Investigate the Jan. 6 Attack have dramatically confirmed that Donald Trump, former president of the United States, attempted a coup d’état.
This is unprecedented. An overt coup attempt has not happened in any of the imperialist powers in the last century and exposes the bare threads of democracy in the U.S. The coup attempt also revealed the sharp instability in the U.S. ruling class. The House hearings, however, conceal more than they reveal.
Who is president right now
This picture was taken in 2018, under the Trump administration’s “no tolerance” policy towards asylum seekers crossing the southern border. The policy was discontinued by the Biden administration in January of 2021. Mass trials for migrants, however, have been an ongoing phenomenon since 2005 under Operation Slipshine, started during the Bush II administration and reaching a peak during the Obama administration. Of course, none of this would have been possible without the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 under the Clinton administration, which changed immigration laws to make illegal entry a felony instead of a misdemeanour, and eliminated much due process.
As for the current president? That is Joe Biden, under whose administration some changes have been made to immigration policy. The rest, however, tends to be mostly a continuation of the policies of previous administrations, much to the detriment of the people still imprisoned and deported.
