MLK already told em about the white moderates and they shot him so.

Okay, you know what, fuck this, rant time. Bullshit like this is why the US is where it is - with women losing reproductive freedom, voting rights slipping away (especially for, surprise, nonwhite communities), trans kids getting bullied by adults in power, and LGBT people in general back to being called “groomers” and pedophiles.

Yeah, Biden - and dudes who call themselves centrists in the US - WILL test out as being “conservative” because politics here has been so successfully shifted to the right that even “the left” isn’t really the left anymore. But he’s sure as hell different from the extreme right wing of the conservative party.

The way to fix this isn’t by saying that Democrats and Republicans are “the same” and then opting out of voting, or only voting for your Perfect Unicorn Candidate With No Chance of Winning, or voting for Mickey Mouse because IT’S A PROTEST VOTE. MAN. That plays into the forces trying to drag this goddamn country straight into literal fascism, and I’m not joking about that. My father’s a retired history prof with a specialization in pre-WW2 history, and he’s very frank about Trump following Mussolini’s playbook to the goddamn letter in an attempt to turn this country into an autocracy. It failed once, but probably won’t fail again. Trump and his kind have a shitton of support out there, unfortunately, AND THEY VOTE.

And they put out stuff like the above, to discourage progressive voters from even trying to change things.

Yeah, Biden got elected, and Biden isn’t great, and Biden hasn’t Fixed Everything, but newsflash, the President of the United States isn’t some kind of fucking God-Emperor who changes this country with a wave of his magic wand (yet - give the right some time and he will be, and it will be a “he” for damn sure). Congress is super important, and the reason so much positive stuff Biden and the other currently elected Dems have actually tried to do has stalled out is that the Senate margin is so slim a couple of “Democrats, but actually conservatives” like Manchin and Sinema - two people, two fucking people - can make the difference and play their little power games with what legislation passes and what doesn’t.

And yet I see way too many people saying, “Waaaah, the Democrats haven’t made everything perfect in just 2 years, so I’m voting for the Republicans this time!” or “I voted last time and it didn’t make a difference, so I’m not gonna bother.” Pardon me while I go bang my head against this wall.

Yeah, “moderates” suck and MLK was right (because it’s all too often a code word for “wishy-washy bullshitter”), but the only way to win is to get out there and vote. Vote for the least sucky candidate even if they aren’t perfect, and keep doing it, and ESPECIALLY keep doing it in things like this year’s midterm vote. It’s not fun, it’s not flashy, it’s not immediate, but we need to drag the actual center back to the center and away from the right, and start having an actual functional left here, or we’re heading straight for a hellhole in this country.

That incremental voting is what the conservatives did, over decades, and it worked for them while too many non-conservatives were farting around and pretending it wasn’t happening. I STILL have “liberal” people telling me, “Oh, don’t worry, Roe v. Wade is ESTABLISHED LAW and the Supreme Court will NEVER gut it, you silly woman, you’re worrying about nothing,” and I am ready to fucking scream my lungs out about it. (And kind of just did.)

Anyway, vote, it’s important. Vote for the “boring shit” not just flashy things like the President. Vote even if the difference between options seems small. Vote for school boards so kids will get taught real history and LGBT kids will be safe. Vote for state legislatures, secretary of state, everything, because it all matters. And don’t let people handwave it away with, “They’re all just the same.” That’s propaganda, and we need to stop falling for it.

Yeah go vote for Biden the man who we lost all remaining human rights over just do it again I’m sure this time it’ll be better

I love how American liberals cannot understand any political action beyond voting the blue guys or the red guys lol

When someone points out that there is often barely any tangible difference between the blue guys or the red guys being in power, they immediately take that as “give up”, rather than as a call to radical politics, and then freak out and accuse you of spreading republican propaganda or something.

This has been said a million times already but: you should probably still throw in a vote when you get the chance but don’t stop there and don’t expect it to fix anything necessarily
