Just so we’re perfectly clear, i looked up WHY republicans voted no, and the general consensus is summed up by Arizona Representative Andy Biggs, who said “this amendment attempts to create a problem where none exists, by requesting investigations into Law Enforcement and the Armed Services for alleged rampant white supremacist or white nationalist sympathies”.
Take that how you want, but it strikes me as 1) he doesnt think white nationalists in law enforcement and military is a problem and 2) they shouldnt be penalized for those beliefs.
60 years ago today, British fascist leader Oswald Mosley foolishly attempted to hold a fascist rally in Manchester. Within seconds of his appearance the crowd knocked him to the ground. Mosley’s appearance lasted all of five minutes before police declared it a riot, shut it down, and hustled him to safety.
On this day, 29 July 1910, the predominantly Black citizens of Slocum, Texas, were massacred in an act of terror designed to preserve economic white supremacy. Hundreds of armed white racists attacked the town, gunning down Black people as they hid in their homes, work or tried to flee. The victims numbered from at least eight to 25, but many believe the figure to be much higher. After the massacre, and the exodus of Black residents, the racists stole their homes and property, and the town remains overwhelmingly white to this day. None of the perpetrators were punished, and none of the victims compensated.

Good news, though. If you divorce in ANY state, atm, other states have to recognize it. South Dakota, Washington, and Alaska require 0 days’ residency to file for divorce.
Funny how Mr. Thomas didn’t put changing that on his wish list dissent, either (he and his first wife divorced).
