“Alice Cooper: The Nightmare” is the rarely seen TV special that aired on April, 25th, 1975 on ABC, in conjunction with the release of the legendary “Welcome To My Nightmare” album. The TV special stars Alice Cooper as Steven and Vincent Price as The Spirit of the Nightmare, and showcases every song from the “Welcome To My Nightmare” album, including Only Women Bleed, Department of Youth, Cold Ethyl and the title track but it’s not a straight concert film. It’s a proper rock opera with a linear (sort of…) story & horror set pieces & spooky play-acting intertwined with the music.

This is completely different from the 1976 concert film “Welcome To My Nightmare” COOPER released in theaters and later (1981) on home video. Imo, it’s superior. Even though it does unfortunately post-date the breakup of his excellent original band in late 1974.

Full disclosure: my interest in ALICE COOPER’s recorded output takes a steep nose-dive after the original ALICE COOPER GROUP split up. I’m not too well versed in any COOPER albums past Muscle Of Love (1974) although Zipper Catches Skin (1982), Lace and Whiskey (1977) and this one, Welcome To My Nightmare (1975), all have their moments for me. I did see him live on every single mid-late 80s tour, tho. I have to say was never disappointed. Saw him just 3 years ago or so (pre-pandemic) and he was still excellent!
