Re-Animator Film Facts

Some of my favourite fun facts about my favourite H.P. Lovecraft film adaptation. Enjoy!

https://halloween-year-round.com/2020/10/18/35-fun-facts-about-re-animator/ALT

Here is the original source where I found most of these facts complied, there are more here I didn’t include if you’d like to check out the full article!

✶ ✶ ✶

  • Stuart Gordon got the idea for the film from believing that there were too many Dracula inspired movies and not enough Frankenstein ones.
  • Gordon wanted to initially film the movie in black and white to give it the atmosphere of an old monster movie.
  • The film went through twenty-four gallons of fake blood.
  • Before production, various members of the cast and crew visited an insane asylum for research.
  • In the actors commentary for the film, Barbara Crampton recalled Bruce Abbott gifting her the jacket that he wore in the film, and that she still has it.
  • The entire film was shot in eighteen days.
  • The reagent in the film was glow stick juice, which Jeffrey Combs advises people not to drink because apparently that stuff is toxic.
  • Jeffrey Combs recalls in the actors commentary having to give David Game cigarettes while he was stuck under tables during the headless Dr. Hill scenes.
  • The opening scene of the movie was filmed last.
  • One of the actors on the film scared a gas station attendant because they were covered in the fake blood from set.
  • David Gale’s wife was so enraged by the “head” scene that while watching the movie, she left the theatre.
  • For certain scenes with dead Rufus, a real dead cat was used.
  • Re-Animator was one of many films that Jeffrey Combs and Barbara Crampton co-starred on, others including From Beyond, Castle Freak, and The Evil Clergyman.
