To me, the best outcome we can hope for of queers carrying guns is to lead to stricter gun control laws for everyone, but if we can’t get that, then making the straights more afraid of us will do
If they tighten the gun control laws, it will never be “stricter gun control for EVERYONE.” It will be this: the laws will be enforced only against queers, people of color, leftists, poor people, basically they will only apply to people the fash pig cops don’t like. Why do i know this? Because thats how it already works with many existing laws. The entire justice system is against us.
In Washington State, there is a recent law against open carrying at protests, so leftists don’t do it, but the far-right does it all the time and never gets charged with anything. Because they are on the same side as the cops.
I do not want my access to effective means of self-defense to be restricted.
Honestly, what a perfect encapsulation of the entire issue with the gun control debate. Regardless of what laws exist, so long as the underlying system operates the way it does the marginalized will always be violently disarmed while the privileged get to mow us down with no consequences whatsoever. This is why the entire conversation needs to shift away from whether gun control should be “more strict” or “less strict” in a broad sense and towards dismantling the systems that generate, support, and encourage violence perpetrated by the privileged against the marginalized.
If the US government actually gave a fuck, if lawmakers actually wanted to do something about acts of terror, they’d start 1) improving material conditions for the working class so it’s harder for people to become “blackpilled”/“doomerpilled”/whatever the 4chan fash are calling it these days, and 2) working to dissolve the violent militaristic fascistic patriarchal culture of the US. Give people some hope and the mental faculties to resolve their problems without resorting to acts of terror, people won’t resort to acts of terror. MANY active shooters have a history of misogynistic violence; if young men start getting taught not to be woman-hating shit-heels, start learning that masculinity and manhood don’t necessitate dominance and violence, there might be a major decrease in violence in the US. But the US doesn’t want that. They’d rather young men grow up to be some form of terrorist (military personnel, cops, or militaristic fascist civilians) than adults who talk about their feelings and solve their problems with words.
This blog is mostly so I can vent my feelings and share my interests. Other than that, I am nothing special.
