It’s the second batch of Tesla shares Musk has sold since he took over Twitter at the end of October.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk sold about 22 million more shares in his electric vehicle business worth around $3.6 billion, according to a financial filing out Wednesday night.

The transactions took place between this week, according to the filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Musk told his millions of followers on social media this year that he had “no further TSLA sales planned” after April 28.

According to the financial research firm VerityData, Musk has sold 94,202,321 shares this year at an average price of $243.46 per share, for pretax proceeds of about $22.93 billion.  …

On this day, 15 December 1890, Hunkpapa Lakota leader Tȟatȟáŋka Íyotake (Sitting Bull) was killed by Indian police in the Standing Rock Reservation in South Dakota. Indian agent James McLauchlan had sent 39 officers and four volunteers to arrest Tȟatȟáŋka Íyotake, fearing the growth of the spiritual ghost dance movement, which foresaw an end to white expansionism. Tȟatȟáŋka Íyotake refused to cooperate with police, so they used force on him which outraged the crowd which had gathered, one of whom shot a policeman. Police retaliated by shooting Tȟatȟáŋka Íyotake in the chest and head, killing him. A battle then erupted leaving seven additional villagers dead, and eight police officers.

Io volcano world comes into view of Juno probe - BBC News

Nasa’s Juno probe is bearing down on Io, the most volcanically active world in the Solar System.

It’s in the process of making a series of ever closer flybys.

Already, the spacecraft has passed by the Jupiter moon at a distance of 80,000km, to reveal details of its hellish, lava-strewn landscape.

But Juno will get much, much nearer to Io over the course of the next year, eventually sweeping over the surface at an altitude of just 1,500km.

It’s more than 20 years since we’ve had such an encounter with the 3,600km-wide object.  …

The Battle of Aliwal on 28 January 1846 saw the British East India Company (EIC) defeat the Sikh Empire. One of four major battles during the First Anglo-Sikh War (1845-6), Aliwal was a decisive victory where the EIC’s Bengal Lancers cavalry established their formidable reputation. After one more victory at the Battle of Sobraon, the war was won.
