(WXYZ) — Our great state has been crowned the deadliest state for winter driving, according to a recent study.

Consumer research website, ValuePenguin.com , says Michigan has the highest number of winter weather-related driving fatalities in the country – earning it the top spot.

The study found between 2013 and 2017, there were 282 fatalities as a result of winter-related accidents. Michigan averages 37 deaths per 100 below-freezing days each year, according to research.

Detroit, Oshtemo, Lansing, Pontiac and Romulus were listed as the worst cities for winter driving in the state. The worst roads were I-94, I-75, I-96, US-31 and US-41.

Top five deadliest states for winter driving by fatalities were:

 Michigan, 282 winter driving fatalities
 Pennsylvania, 197 winter-driving fatalities
 New York, 183 winter-driving fatalities
 Ohio, 172 winter-driving fatalities
 Illinois, 135 winter-driving fatalities
