I know this is a long post - but omg it gave me feels. Can you imagine how intense their love had to be to survive how homophobic it was back then. 😭😭😭

these are beautiful photos, but if you’re interested in learning more about pre-stonewall gay history i’d recommend Before Stonewall. it was made in 1984, shortly before the AIDS epidemic became the focus of the community. it may seem a little dated, but i’ve watched it a few times over and it’s definitely worth your time.

it features dozens of amazing interviews with gay men and lesbians who grew up in the 20s, 30s, and 40s, sharing their experiences. it’s hard at times, but it’s amazing seeing the joy we’ve always managed to share among ourselves.
