“I think… What happened in Iraq was a mistake” and I laugh, because I know he’s trying to be diplomatic but it wasn’t a mistake, a mistake implies it wasn’t intentional, as part of a war on the future of the middle east. Not just of their physical world, but their spiritual and mental ones. This was a war on the notion of countries like Iraq being “real countries”, after the arab spring. The 1970s middle east, with colleges and parks and young people in jeans, was a threat to the west’s hold over oil reserves. The west needs the middle east to be nothing more than a stereotype of Laurence of Arabia, so that America could swoop in and take their oil, and other natural resources. This poor bastard’s grim ruination was a part of a carefully orchestrated effort to obliterate the wellbeing of an entire region’s people.
