On this day, 16 March 2003, three left-wing activists were attacked in Milan, Italy, by a group of fascists armed with knives. Two of the activists were wounded while the third, Davide ‘Dax’ Cesare, was stabbed over a dozen times and died in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. Later that evening, police attacked Dax’s friends and family as they sat in the hospital waiting room.
