Lyft just offered me free credits to break the strike this week.

There’s a lyft / uber strike planned this week from 7am to 9pm on Wednesday May 8th. I got a notification this morning that every ride taken this week gives me credit on future rides. I found that tempting but then remembered why they are doing it - to encourage folks to cross a picket line. I for one won’t be taking advantage of this offer, as I stand in solidarity with people utilizing their right to free speech to bargain for better working conditions.

Consider this a friendly reminder to those who follow me that this is happening, and I hope you’ll support the apps’ drivers in their quests for better pay.

On this day, 11 April 1945, as US forces approached, the inmate resistance seized control of Buchenwald concentration camp in Germany. However, when the Allies took control of the concentration camps many of those interned for homosexuality were not freed, but required to serve out the full term of their sentences under the homophobic Nazi penal code. Those who were released were not acknowledged as victims of Nazi persecution and were refused reparations.

On this day, 12 March 1912, employers caved in to all of the demands of the Bread and Roses strike by 20,000 mostly women textile workers in Lawrence, Massachusetts. The stoppage, after it was started by Polish women, was organised by the revolutionary Industrial Workers of the World union. The workers faced down savage police and militarily repression, who killed one woman and beat and jailed many others, and eventually won big concessions across the whole textile industry. While we are on the subject of wolves, let me introduce you to this famous Russian meme! Originally it was a photo taken by Mr. Aaron Huey from National Geographic, but the Russian Internet hivemind decided it to be a perfect depiction of some teamwork dynamics. The capslocked lines have also turned into independent memes of their own. :)

- Hey, who’s the leader over there? Could you maybe try for a straighter pathway?

- I dunno, maybe there’s something wrong with their legs or eyes, lol.

- I’m seriously sick of having to turn right and left all the time in this trench.

- Oh, who the fuck cares? We can walk - and that’s good enough.

- I’M A BIG BAD WOOLEN WOLF! GODDAMNIT, I’M JUST TOO GOOD! MY PAWZZERS ARE THE MOST POWERFUL!

A newly rediscovered painting by Francisco Goya, lost since 1928, has just been unveiled to the public for the first time at the Museum of Zaragoza. It is called “Ghostly Vision.”

Arturo Ansón, the art historian who discovered the small painting and established its provenance, believes it was painted in 1801.
