Coffinette for the Viscera of Tutankhamun
This exquisite coffinette, which contained the mummified liver of the King, depicts him as Osiris. The test on the lid invokes the protection of Imsery, one of the four sons of Horus, and Isis, the wife of Osiris. She also appears on the underside of the lid, and a spell from the Book of the Dead covers most of the remaining interior surfaces. One of four coffinettes found in Tutankhamun’s canopic chest, this one, like the others, was not originally made for him.
From the Tomb of Tutankhamun (KV62). Now in the Egyptian Museum, Cairo.

The fact is, when we shed pounds, we trigger mechanisms that make it hard to keep the weight off. There are some factors that are within our control, but many are not. Understanding how this works might make you look more kindly on your body.
We won’t tell you how to lose weight — or whether you even need to. But we will give you five realities about biology.
