Day 38 – May 1996 – Issue 11: Another disaster that Prof. Mason plans to take advantage of is April 14, 1912. He has transported Godzilla into an iceberg in the middle of the Atlantic. (This concept has also seen other Godzilla artwork, plus another Kaiju creation “Titanus”.) Meanwhile G-Force has captured Dixon and interrogates him for information on Mason’s plans. However, Mason is catapulted 300 years into the future by TV personalities who hire him to bring animals made extinct since the 20th century into their present to give away as game show prizes. A bit of sociological fun here as the wealthiest “10 percent” live high on the hog but having no real skills or ambition. Story: Alex Cox. Cover art: Bob Eggleton.
PS - today I will be at a toy show in Victoria, BC. Apparently someone there has a LOT of Godzilla stuff for sale! WOO HOO! (I know I stated this last Friday, I got my weekends mixed up! ;S )
On this day, 25 May 1978, police in Aotearoa/New Zealand attacked a land occupation by Maori people at Bastion Point, near Auckland, which was demanding the return of the stolen land. The Ōrākei Māori Action Committee had been occupying the land for 506 days before police moved in to evict them, arresting 222 people and demolishing buildings. However, protests continued, and in 1988 the government agreed to return the land to the Ngāti Whātua people. https://www.facebook.com/workingclasshistory/photos/a.296224173896073/1131525080365974/?type=3
