When White House reporter Andrew Feinberg posed a question to Kellyanne Conway on Tuesday about the president’s racist tweets against the four congresswomen known as the “Squad,” he found himself taken aback by her response.
Feinberg, a reporter for the website BeltwayBreakfast.com, asked the White House counselor which countries President Donald Trump was referring to when he suggested Ayanna Pressley, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar—all U.S. citizens—should “go back” to where they came from.
Instead of answering that question, Conway asked him, “What’s your ethnicity?”
“Uh… why is that relevant?” Feinberg asked before Conway interrupted him to say, “Because I’m asking you a question.”
After Conway shares that her ancestors are from Ireland and Italy, the reporter said, “My ethnicity is not relevant to the question I’m asking you.”
Conway still would not answer Feinberg’s question, instead insisting that he question was relevant because Trump said “originally” from—he didn’t—and going on a rant about how “a lot of us are sick and tired in this country of America coming last,” echoing comments she made on Fox News earlier in the day about the “Squad” representing a “dark underbelly in this country.”
…Reached for comment, Feinberg told The Daily Beast, “It’s not the first time she’s responded to one of my questions with an irrelevant question, but this time was particularly bizarre.”
“I just wanted to get back to what I was asking her about,” he added, “so I was glad she was able to confirm the president’s thinking on the matter.”
The global shipping industry is enormous — thousands of ships carry billions of dollars of goods each year across nearly every ocean on the planet.
Those ships run mostly on a particularly dirty type of fuel known as heavy fuel oil, or bunker fuel. It’s thick and sooty, and when it burns, it emits sulfur and particulate matter that can cause respiratory illness. It also emits greenhouse gases, including carbon dioxide and methane, which trap heat in the atmosphere and cause global warming.
“If shipping was a country, it would be the sixth-largest polluter in the world,” says Nerijus Poskus of the shipping technology company Flexport. “About 3% of global emissions are released by ocean freight shipping.”
The industry is growing so steadily, he says, that it’s projected to produce more than 15% of global greenhouse gas emissions by midcentury if ships continue to burn the same fuel, which is a real possibility considering that most cargo ships are designed to last at least 30 years.
The missile and an assortment of other weapons were discovered in the latest of a series of raids by Italian federal police
from the General Investigations and Special Operations
Division (DIGOS). The raids are part of an ongoing investigation into
the Forza Nuova political party and Rebel Firm extremist groups that had
fought in the Donbass region.
Other raids had turned up pro-Nazi and pro-fascist propaganda and relics alongside caches of knives and other illegal weapons—including
brass knuckles, and a baseball bat inscribed with the words “Dux
Mussolini” (Leader Mussolini) and a portrait of Italian Fascist dictator
Benito Mussolini. The groups were also being investigated under Italy’s
anti-fascist laws, following pro-fascist comments by Forza Nuova’s
leader in Turin, Luigi Cortese. But in a raid today in the province of
Pavia, south of Milan, police discovered a collection of modern
automatic weapons—including nine assault rifles, a submachine gun, seven
pistols, silencers, bayonets, and other military weapons.
They suggest that the missile was for resale in the piece.
