When we smear on sunscreen, dermatologist Kanade Shinkai with the University of California, San Francisco says, most of us don’t think about it getting under our skin.
“I think there was an assumption that these are things that we apply to our skin — they don’t really get into our bloodstream,” Shinkai says.
But earlier this year, the Food and Drug Administration raised concerns about chemicals commonly found in sunscreen, noting that they can enter the bloodstream at levels significantly higher than the current FDA threshold for safety testing. And it’s unknown whether there are any harmful health effects. So the agency has asked sunscreen manufacturers to complete safety studies by this November.
The FDA noted that only two of the 16 active ingredients commonly used in commercial sunscreens — the mineral sunblocks, zinc oxide and titanium dioxide — are “generally recognized as safe and effective.” That’s a designation the FDA gives a substance when qualified experts consider it generally safe for its intended use.
This palette commemorates the victories of King Narmer, who came from the south of Egypt to invade the Delta in about
3200-3000 BC.
It represents the most important evidence that the first political unification in the history of mankind occurred in Egypt. The two faces of the artifact are topped by the name of Narmer inscribed inside the Serekh, or rectangular frame. In hieroglyphic signs, the chisel reads “mr” and the catfish reads “naar.”
The Serekh is flanked by two female heads having the ears and horns of a cow, which could be the first representation of the goddess Hathor. The scene on the front shows the king, followed by his sandals bearer and wearing the White Crown of Upper Egypt, smiting a helpless foe from the North. The falcon Horus of Upper Egypt stands upon a bunch of papyrus plants holding a northern prisoner.
The lower register, or scene, depicts two other northern enemies running away from the king. Inscribed upon their heads are hieroglyphic signs indicating their names or those of their localities. The upper section of the back side shows the king wearing the Red Crown of Lower Egypt, followed by his sandals bearer and preceded by his vizier and four standard bearers.
Next comes a scene depicting the corpses of 10 beheaded men.
In the middle section, there are two men holding two felines with extremely long necks representing the people of the North and South under the control of the king and his men. The lower section shows a bull, representing the king attacking the walls of a northern city.
The Narmer Palette was discovered at the Hierakonpolis excavation site in 1897-98 by British archaeologist, James Edward Quibell, along with Frederick W. Green. It was discovered at the Temple of Horus in the ancient capital of the Upper Kingdom, Hierakonpolis. The palette was found along with the Narmer Macehead, another artifact which shows the completion of the conquest of the Lower Kingdom.
I really wish Life would NOT imitate comics in this case.
Even Frank wouldn’t agree with this BS.
Punisher’s creator Gerry Conway condemned cops using his symbol. One of the most influential Punisher writers Alan Grant condemned it as well. Kurt Busiek outright pointed out Frank is a serial killer and spent two days arguing with angry assholes defending this on twitter.

as i recall, the page above was in response to how often this bullshit crops up—the sheer numbers of US police and military who adopt the Punisher’s symbol as theirs.
Up now on my eBay! Classic urban fantasy/horror comic from 2000! Deja Vu #2 by Richard Moore! Also up for grabs: my superheroine comic collection (70’s-80’s stuff), random Radio Comix books and various indie comics! My house is super small, and I am still selling off thirty years’ worth of collectibles to raise money for ongoing back taxes & various upcoming large expenses, so every little bit helps. Thanks for looking & sharing!
This blog is mostly so I can vent my feelings and share my interests. Other than that, I am nothing special.
If you don't like Left Wing political thought and philosophy, all things related to horror, the supernatural, the grotesque, guns or the strange, then get the fuck out. I just warned you.
