News update! A student (20 years old) has recently been arrested for buying these laser pens, on the account of them being an offensive weapon, claiming that they set things on fire.
Now, there’s a nightly tourist attraction that uses these lasers, sized up multiple times. There is nothing inherently offensive or dangerous about these tiny laser pens, mainly used for stargazing.
So what do the people do?
They come out, to the planetarium (another popular use for these lasers) and they all shine a spectacular laser show to:
1). show their dissatisfaction for baseless arrests
2). display that there’s nothing dangerous about these lasers
3). they try to set the entire planetarium on fire with the very vicious glare of multiple lasers (it did not work)
4). also to satisfy the urge to shine a flashlight at a planetarium and make shadow dogs out of their hands
5). they’ve also turned it into an impromptu disco with song requests being taken, neon beachballs being tossed around, a public karaoke session
6). They also attempt to set a newspaper on fire via the sheer offensive firepower of multiple lasers singled upon one target. Newsflash, it didn’t work.
7). They also attempt to light a cigarette, to no avail.
After more than a DECADE of organizing, Cyntoia Brown has finally been released from jail. Brown, a victim of child sex trafficking, was sentenced to life in prison at 16 for killing a man who she felt threatened by during her forced sex work. After nearly half of her life spent behind bars, she remain on parole for the next 10 years. All love and power to the movement that helped secure her release! The fight for justice for Cyntoia Brown and other victims of human trafficking is far from over, but thank you to the countless voices who helped bring her home today.

She is not free. Parole is not free. Conditioned release is not free.
“Conditions of her parole include her compliance with an approved release plan, that she maintain employment or educational enrollment and that she participate in regular counseling sessions, said Dorinda Carter, spokeswoman for the Tennessee Department of Corrections. She’s also required to perform at least 50 hours of community service, including working with at-risk youth.”
She is still under the control of the State. She still has to live her life according to the State. She has to maintain employment (which is difficult for convicted people) perform community service and adhere to some undisclosed “release plan”.
She should have never been targeted. She should not have a record. It is absolutely a win that she is release from physical prison but people really need to continue pushing for her total pardon. She has lived under this long enough.
Okay so I really have no idea what’s triggered this post to blow up again over the past few days, but I really appreciate that so many people care about the conservation of wolves. Our natural world is beautiful and important, and we should do everything we can to protect it.
And BTW, for the people complaining about the last Tweet where I mentioned Democrats and Republicans…that was in the original article. I didn’t make anything more political than it already was. And anyway, it’s apt, so there.
