“Until we have begun to go without them, we fail to realize how unnecessary many things are. We’ve been using them not because we needed them but because we had them.” – Seneca, Moral Letters to Lucilius
Wadjet Eye Finger Ring
Glazed faience wadjet (“Eye of Horus”) finger ring. New Kingdom, 18th Dynasty, reign of Amenhotep III, ca. 1391-1353 BC. Now in the Roemer and Pelizaeus Museum, Hildesheim.
The incident, known as the Ludlow Massacre, occurred in April of 1914, and it sparked a 10-day battle in the coalfields of the American West. It was one of the bloodiest episodes in the history of American class conflict, and one of the closest things to war between compatriots since the Confederacy was defeated a half-century earlier.
