A keyhole garden is a round garden bed with a compost pile in the center. The garden has a notch in the front, so gardeners can easily add to or turn over the pile. Featuring a drainage layer, a soil layer, and a planting area, keyhole gardens combine all the necessities that plants need to thrive.
On this day, 20 September 1763, Filipina revolutionary anti-colonial leader Gabriela Silang was executed by Spanish authorities. The previous week, she had attempted to besiege Vigan, but she was forced back to Abra, where she was later captured. She and her troops were hanged in Vigan’s central Plaza. https://www.facebook.com/workingclasshistory/photos/a.296224173896073/1215139065337908/?type=3
With a New Fund, Evergreen Cooperatives Looks to Spread the ‘Cleveland Model’
Since their inception ten years ago, the Evergreen Cooperatives in Cleveland, Ohio have served as a promising model of economic development in a post-industrial city. The three worker cooperatives—an industrial laundry company, a green energy services contractor, and a hydroponic greenhouse (pictured above)—collectively employ over 200 individuals, many of whom have become worker-owners. In a city where median household income hovers around $18,500, these companies pay their workers a living wage and share with them the profits they produce.
Now, the Evergreen Cooperatives network is taking matters into its own hands with a new fund that will acquire existing companies from retiring business owners and sell them back to the employees. The Fund for Employee Ownership, as the Evergreen fund is called, is the latest and perhaps most potent initiative aimed at expanding employee ownership and the principles of democratic governance.

In 2020, we’re sending our newest robotic scientist to Mars, paving the way for humans to one day live and work on the Red Planet. The only problem? Our Mars 2020 rover doesn’t have a name yet! We’re calling on K-12 students across the country to find the very best name for our next robotic space explorer!
The Mission
Before we can send astronauts to Mars we need to learn more about the planet and its climate. This is where the Mars 2020 rover comes in. Its job will be to explore the Red Planet in search of signs of ancient life! It will also be tasked with characterizing the planet’s climate and geology, and collecting samples from its surface. Because of the groundwork laid by rovers such as this, humans will one day become an interplanetary species!
Meet the rovers that came before it
The-soon-to-be-named rover will be joining the team of historic NASA robots that have been working away in space for the past 27 years! All of our robot explorers have their own missions, personality and names that help tell their own story. The most recent Mars rover is Curiosity, the …..
Submit your entry today!
One grand prize winner will name the rover and be invited to Cape Canaveral, Florida to see the spacecraft launch in July 2020! So, what will it take to win? Just send us your proposed name and a short essay (no more than 150 words), explaining why the name you chose is the best for this very special robotic explorer! The deadline is November 1st, so get your thinking cap on and tell us your most creative idea! Apply here!
This blog is mostly so I can vent my feelings and share my interests. Other than that, I am nothing special.
If you don't like Left Wing political thought and philosophy, all things related to horror, the supernatural, the grotesque, guns or the strange, then get the fuck out. I just warned you.
