Model of Egyptian Pikemen

This group of statues of ancient Egyptian pikemen was found in the tomb of Mesehti, a local governor of Asyut at the end of the First Intermediate Period and the beginning of the Middle Kingdom.

The group consists of forty soldiers arranged in ten lines. They are colored reddish brown, their strong tan indicating their continuous and elaborate open-air training. They have a tidy hair cut which covers their ears and a very short kilt to facilitate movement, and they carry lances and shields.

The artist varied the decorations on the shields to add interest and break up the monotony of the group, and also portrayed them with different facial features and heights to create liveliness. This further accentuated by the eyes which show their alertness and strength. while their representation in parallel lines and advancing their left legs creates a rhythm that imbues the group with still more animation.

Wood, from Asyut. Middle Kingdom, 11th Dynasty, around 2000 BC. Now in the Egyptian Museum, Cairo. JE 30986; CG 258

It wasn’t just in solidarity with the other GOPs, it was to forward the narrative they’re trying to convey that NO rebulicans are allowed to know what’s going on, as opposed to some 47 of them on various committees having access and the ability to question witnesses.

Also, the way things are currently set up? Having this kind of private hearings with only all of the intelligence committee members allowed to be in the room before public ones? Was a format implemented under Bush and approved by Republicans at the time.

Their screaming about it now is a last-ditch attempt at distraction; they’ve started decrying the process because they KNOW they don’t have a defense against what is being said.

watching AOC grilling Mark Zuckerberg made my afternoon

Wow, this is SUPER revealing. Mark Zuckerberg knows exactly what he’s doing and he knows that it will make him powerful, so he straight up lies to Congress or withholds information without any shame whatsoever

As someone who follows politics and analyzed policy, I’ve not seen someone who skillfully questions people quite like AOC. She is very adept at honing her questions to create a narrative that the lay person can digest and interpret on their own. This is why her lines of questioning are frequently newsworthy when much of congressional testimony never is seen by the public, because she’s able to elicit responses that make sense to people who don’t follow politics regularly. The right fears her because of how intelligent and skilled she is.

“We don’t set the standards” BITCH you HIRED THEM???? They’re your vendor fuck you you slimey curdled milk jug.

More like her, fewer like him, please.

IIRC she to “sue” (it was like a dollar) because her insurance wouldn’t pay for the cost of the hospital stuff until there was a law suit to address damages. Hence her smiling like it’s a goofy thing.

Oh well jeez. >:/ MEDIA RAGE

Yeah, it emerged afterwards that this was a lawsuit to try to trigger a homeowner’s insurance claim to cover medical bills, and that Connell remains on perfectly good terms with her nephew with no actual stress or tension within the family.

Yeah, this is a case of someone getting fucked over by health insurance and using their own loophole against them.

The media loves this narrative of people filing “ridiculous” lawsuits but actually MOST of those stories are distorted bullshit.

Wow, I never knew the full context of the story. I just heard it vaguely on Buzzfeed or wherever and thought “Wow, what a bitch.”

‘Frivolous lawsuits’ are a myth invented by unethical corporations to discredit the consumers and laborers they’ve screwed over.
