This is such a helpful video!!!!! I had actually instinctively started doing something like this- Wick barks anytime someone knocks on the door, and often when he sees other dogs in front of the house even though he likes other dogs. So I figured I’d go look along with him, and talk to him calmly to kind of demonstrate that there was no danger and he could relax. Frankly I don’t mind the barking- his alerting us to potential dangers is a good thing- I just don’t want for him to feel nervous or think he has to defend the house. Defending the house is my job as long as I’m awake, and I believe his aggression toward guests is largely a guarding behavior on his part based on how we’ve seen it play out.
