I don’t think Marvel adds outside characters to Earth-616 anymore, but with all the kaiju they’ve got, that’s probably the most interesting place they could go with this.

The Alex Ross painting in this article is an old one – Tsuburaya commissioned it in 2005 for an Ultraman DVD box set.

On this day, 28 October 1967, Black Panther Huey P. Newton was stopped by policeman John Frey who, realising he had stopped a leading Panther, called for back up. After backup arrived, shots were fired leaving all three wounded, officer Frey fatally. Newton was later handcuffed to his hospital bed and beaten by police and eventually convicted of voluntary manslaughter, a charge later overturned in 1970 after a mass campaign in his support around the world. This is a detailed account of the war of repression fought by US security forces against the Panthers later written by Newton: https://libcom.org/library/war-against-panthers-study-repression-america-huey-p-newton-doctoral-thesis

On this day, 6 November 1913, striking Indian mine workers in South Africa demonstrated against a new tax on former indentured labourers, with the background of a mass direct action campaign against racist pass laws. Around 2000 miners marched, as did some women and children as well as Mohandas Gandhi who was arrested at the demonstration. Gandhi did not initially support the movement against the tax as he feared it would alienate the white population however he was swept up by the working class discontent. The tax was soon scrapped. https://www.facebook.com/workingclasshistory/photos/a.296224173896073/1256308961220918/?type=3
