The belief that overpopulation is a fundamental catalyst of climate change is rooted in bigotry. It places the blame for global crisis on the backs of poor people, non-white people, non-industrialized nations, anyone in a country with a high birth rate, instead of the massive rates of consumption stemming from industrialization and high income.
In fact, our population is expected to level off at 10 billion or so and then DECREASE as more countries move past the transitional stage into industrialization.
Saying overpopulation is a key issue in climate change is bullshit. It’s completely incorrect. Claiming it is true invites discussion of solutions, which inevitably invites bigots to infiltrate discussions and excuse the destruction of poor and non-white folks while continuing to ignore actual issues.
If you continue to believe that overpopulation is the Big Issue, please re-evaluate your view of the climate crisis.
