Today is Halloween. On All Hallows’ in 1590, Scottish authorities claimed that around 200 witches held a gathering to prevent King James from reaching his queen-to-be in Denmark. They allegedly had cauldrons, rode about in the sea in sieves, tied human body parts to live cats and threw them in the sea to create a storm and delay James’s journey. Dozens were arrested and confessed after severe torture - just some of the many thousands of people, almost entirely poor women, who were murdered in Europe’s misogynist witchhunts. Bernie Sanders is becoming harder to stop. Nevada is where his opponents are starting to realize it.
Advisers to three rival campaigns privately conceded over the weekend that the best anyone else could hope for here is second or third. Some of them gape at the crowd sizes at Sanders’ events — like the swarm of supporters who accompanied Sanders, his fist raised, to an early caucus site in Las Vegas on Saturday, the first day of early voting in the state.
We may be seen as ahead, but we need to treat this campaign like we are behind - donate, canvas, volunteer, and most all vote!
