On this day, 18 May 1980, exactly 40 years ago the workers of Gwangju, South Korea, after robbing local armouries and police stations, rose up against their brutal US-backed dictator, Chun Doo-hwan. The uprising took place after peaceful anti-government protesters had been fired upon and killed by government troops. Though it was bloodily suppressed it helped ignite a chain of similar rebellions across Asia, winning people many democratic rights.

Call me crazy but I so hope that I see a revolution of the working/lower class in america in my lifetime. People need to understand that their lives are worth so much more than working 30, 40, 50+ hours a week.

“Contributing to society” should not mean working a miserable 9-5 (or worse) job every single day with minimul time off. It should mean making art, friendship, a sense of community, creativity, discovery, adventure etc. But instead we have been made to believe that whatever passions, aspirations, and desires we may have should be put on hold and we should instead work so the super rich can continue accumulating unfathomable amounts of money.

The best years of our lives are being stolen from us. Not all of us will be lucky enough to retire comfortably and healthily with time to pursure our interests.

Your life is worth love, happiness, passion, satisfaction, and peace because you are a human being. The million-billion(soon to be trillion)aire class of america does not care about you. They do not understand what you go through and they will continue to benefit from your suffering.
