Growing food instead of laws is good, but can we PLEASE stop with the condescending bullshit that implies that people who choose to grow lawns must only being doing it for shallow ‘sheepish’ reasons?

Maybe instead of snidely saying ‘trying to impress your neighbors?’ give people instructions on how to work with and/or fight their home owner’s association, how to appeal to a landlord, how to address local ordinances, and how to grow stealth food crops as ornamental plants in areas where food gardening is banned. Seriously, they will come bulldoze your shit and then bill you for it.

We need more posts instructing people how to guerrilla garden and found community gardens, and fewer posts saying ‘You only have a lawn because you’re shallow and vain and stupid!’

Turns out when these local governments do it it ends up being cheaper for everyone, and they often offer cell service too (The Massachusetts town had cell service for 10$ and internet for 25-45 depending on speed. Most residents had a 40% drop in cost)

On this day, 29 May 1941, animators for Disney in Los Angeles walked out on strike when 16 union cartoonists were fired for demanding union recognition. Holding out for five weeks, the strike was settled by mediators who ruled in favour of the union on every issue, and the workers received pay increases of nearly 50% in many cases, although Walt Disney was bitter about his defeat until he died (lol).

Minneapolis Transit Shuts Down as Bus Drivers Refuse to Help... -

With protests erupting all over Minneapolis over the death of George Floyd, cops are attempting to arrest protesters in mass.

However, some bus drivers in Minneapolis are refusing to use their buses to transport protestors to jail.

“As a transit worker and union member, I refuse to transport my class and radical youth,” Minneapolis bus driver Adam Burch told Payday. “An injury to one is an injury to all. The police murdered George Floyd and the protest against is completely justified and should continue until their demands are met.”

While it would be illegal for Burch’s union to call for a wildcat strike, his local union ATU Local 1005 did issue a statement of solidarity with the protestors.

“In ATU, we have a saying “NOT ONE MORE” when it comes to driver assaults, which in some cases have led to members being murdered while doing their job,” said the union in a statement. “We say “NOT ONE MORE” execution of a black life by the hands of police. NOT ONE MORE. JUSTICE FOR GEORGE FLOYD!”

Minneapolis Transit Service Cancels Bus Service

Today, the Minneapolis’s Metro Transit canceled service out of concerns for their bus drivers and vehicles.

“I was able to have good convos with the drivers at my garage before they sent us home. Many [are] unwilling to do anything for the police and put themselves in harm’s way for the police that created this mess to begin with,” said Buruch.

The workers have launched a group and a petition entitled “Union Members for #JusticeforGeorgeFloyd”.
