daily reminder that there is absolutely nothing normal about being expected to waste a majority of your life at a corporation to survive instead of indulging in better life experiences ✨

In the 1960s it was a common speculation that by 1980 the typical work week would consist of 4 days. And by the year 2000 we’d be working no more than 3 days a week.

Because of computerization, automation, and better efficiencies in workflow.

Guess what happened instead?

Believe it or not the 8 hour workday is a result of workers protesting 12 to 14 hour workdays. Businesses would work you forever if they could–and they still outsource jobs to countries where they can get people to work up to 16 hours a day.

“Martin Crawford, a forest gardening pioneer, based in the UK, explains in a short film by Thomas Regnault, ’What we think of as normal, in terms of food production is actually not normal at all. Annual plants are very rare in nature, yet most of our agricultural fields are filled with annual plants. It’s not normal. What’s normal is a more forested or semi-forested system.

Forest gardens mimic natural ecosystems by using perennial plants and trees, which live for a long time and/or reseed themselves. The garden would have various vertical levels of growth such as tall canopy trees, shorter trees, shrubs and bushes, vines, consists of various vertical levels of growth, from canopy trees to shorter trees, to shrubs and bushes, vines, herbs, ground cover and roots. The levels work together, offering shade, wind protection, support and nutrition. Starting a forest garden from scratch will take time, work and money but once done, it will basically take care of itself for years with very little maintenance but plenty to harvest.”

TBT: The World Church of the Creator was a white supremacist terror organization that had existed in the US since the early 1970s.  In 1999 one of their members went on a murderous spree of random drive-by shootings, killing two people and injuring ten others.  Anti-Racist Action vowed to shut down the WCOTC and their leader, Matthew Hale and began what became a four-year battle against them that ended with WCOTC in tatters and Hale serving a 40-year prison sentence for ordering a hit on a federal judge.

Pictured above, Chicago ARA members about to light up some WCOTC supporters in front of their house - in suburban Chicago (Spring 2000).
