On this day, 15 July 2009, construction workers in South Africa building stadiums for the 2010 World Cup won their strike for a pay increase. 70,000 workers walked out more than a week earlier on indefinite strike for a 13% increase, claiming they would strike until 2011 if necessary. They settled for 12%.
