workingclasshistory:

On this day, 25 July 2011, 34 women workers, who promoted Angkor beer for Cambrew (a corporation partly owned by Carlsberg), went on strike demanding the payment of unpaid overtime and demonstrated in front of the company headquarters. Other Cambodian unions threatened to boycott Angkor beer, and some bars in the city stopped serving it during the dispute. One bar owner explained they wished to show support as “beer girls are among the most exploited workers in Cambodia”. The workers agreed to suspend their strike on 4 August after the Phnom Penh deputy governor agreed to mediate between them and the company. A few days later Cambrew agreed to start obeying labour laws on overtime pay, and back pay three years of overtime payments it owed. https://www.facebook.com/workingclasshistory/photos/a.296224173896073/1484230858428726/?type=3

There was a thread started on twitter about this so here it is also! My very first #SDCC in 1994: The first photo of me at the con! (Trying to look Very Professional in my navy blazer, since it was my first con as a real life comics pro! Ultraman is always pro, no matter what he wears.) Then the first photo I took at the con. This.

It’s genuinely worrying to me how often white supremacist misogynist dudes have a weird Viking obsession. The Vikings did not agree with you. Stop dragging the Vikings into this.

Right-wingers: We should treat the Muslims like the Vikings did!
Me: You mean travel thousands of miles to strike up profitable trade deals with them in their own countries and establish mutually beneficial business arrangements?
Right-wingers: Wot?

Move to a predominantly Muslim country, convert to Islam, and become famous makers of cheese.

THIS IS MY CONSTANT CRUSADE! THIS WAS MY THESIS!! Stop putting your bullshit ideas on a group of people you know nothing about besides your weird toxic-masculinity wet dreams!!!

Just watched:

“Shocking Dark” aka “Terminator 2” (1989)

A team of commandos heads into the ruins of post-apocalyptic Venice (?) to rescue scientists from a secret laboratory, and are attacked by hordes of slimy, carnivorous something-or-others.

…so hey, kids, did you like “Aliens?” Cuz wow, so did the Italians who made this low-budget spaghetti remix, which spends most of its run time stealing entire scenes from it, and then it ramps up the James Cameron worship (and the WTF factor) even MORE in the last half hour by randomly throwing in a killer cyborg and a time machine!

Directed by the king of Italian ripoff artists, Bruno Mattei, and written by Claudio Fragasso of “Troll 2” fame, this semi-classic cheese fest was never released in the U.S. for obvious legal reasons but it was an apparent hit overseas. They even had the balls to use the title “Terminator 2” in some parts of the world with lax copyright laws!
