Oh!!!! I got to see the first one in person, actually! She’s Mmamoriri from Mombo in Botswana! She was beautiful! And her pride is the group of lions often featured in nature documentaries since their main prey is cape buffalo, a huge and incredibly dangerous animal, resulting in some truly incredible battles between the species.
According to my guide, it was likely she had internal testes along with her external female genitalia, resulting in an increased testosterone level! It’s especially interesting just how dark her mane is, as black manes tend to only present in males with high testosterone. Fascinatingly, it presents not just as a mix of male and female physical traits, but also behaviors!
Here’s a picture I took of Mmamoriri (left) with a male from her pride. As you can see, she’s got the full striking mane, but her face and body are much smaller than the male’s.
Apparently this mix of traits has made her EXTREMELY popular within the pride. She hunts and cares for the young with the lionesses, which helps greatly since her larger stature is a major asset in taking down the formidable buffalo they feed on, but also roars and has a mane, and is therefore able to chase off hyenas (which tend to be stronger than female lions and harass them/steal food/kill cubs) with the males. Mmamoriri has fully diversified her portfolio!
So she’s a kickass intersex lion who says fuck no to gender roles and in doing so has become a major asset to her pride!
It is, unfortunately, probably the result of inbreeding in her pride, which is cut off from wider populations by virtue of living on an island in the Okavango. She is infertile, like the previous maned lioness in the pride, Martina.
Just to try and avoid intersex erasure, for emphasis, this is an intersex lioness.

I live in vietnam and the number is actually that low lmao vietnam has closed down schools and universities and started online learning since feb. they have praticed social distancing and lock down for 20 days now. The government literally spent billions to put tourists in quarantine for free to health check them everyday for fourteen days to make sure community spread doesn’t happen. They’re willing to risk the economy as long as the people are safe. Like you do know vietnamese people have access to the internet right???

Anyway, 1/3rd of all ‘rona cases were attributed to New York, another 1/3rd to the (I believe) 10 or so counties surrounding it, and the rest to the entire rest of the US. The real takeaway should be that New York is a shithole and Cuomo is a murderous bastard.
okay then let’s cut New York out entirely- in fact, let’s just look at one state, to even the scale- Texas, for example, which has a third of the population of Vietnam and a much lower population density- should be doing way better than Vietnam, right? :^)

I hear Texans tend to be very mild-mannered people who just lie down and roll over when their government forces them to close their businesses and stay at hoe. We
are deeply saddened at the loss of our comrade and friend Josh on
Saturday, many of us knew him through the anti-fascist work he did or
got to know him fighting against Isis with the IFB in Syria. He was a principled
and committed revolutionary who was striving to win a better world,
doing it with a warmth and humour that drove people to kindness and
cooperation. He was an example to all of us to do better both as people
and comrades.
This is not just a crushing loss for those who
knew him or worked with him, it’s a devastating loss for the whole
labour movement. He will be dearly and deeply missed.
