Why the fuck did y’all reelect this psychopath by 11 points? Seriously. Are y’all just the dumbest motherfuckers in the history of the world?
I mean, voter suppression and everything matters, sure. It doesn’t make this bastard win by 11 points. That’s a choice by Texans. A clear choice.
So. Again. I have to ask: what the fuck, Texas?
I hate Greg Abbott as much as anybody and absolutely did not vote for him, but this wasn’t (to the best of my knowledge) because of the grid failing—this was ice and fallen trees/branches taking out power lines and shit. the aftermath absolutely could have—and should have!—been handled better, and I’m no electrician or line worker, but I’m given to understand you can’t really winterize against ice-covered branches downing power lines.
okay, I am a native Texan who moved to Massachusetts to get away from the homophobia and I am sick to fucking death of people in safe liberal states asking stuff like “are Texans just stupid.” Do y’all think any of the people on this site voted for Abbott? Marginalized folks, people who can get pregnant–do you think anyone here on the gay nonsense site has voted for this piece of shit? “Yeah sure voter suppression but you chose this” DID YOU LISTEN TO THE FIRST HALF OF YOUR SENTENCE. DO YOU KNOW WHAT IT IS LIKE IN TEXAS AND HAS BEEN LIKE IN TEXAS FOR THE LAST TWENTY YEARS.
Do you know how badly the state has been gerrymandered for the entirety of my adult life? Do you know how that has led to Republicans in charge of not only voting and ID laws for the last twenty years but also things like our school board and textbooks and public education and library funding? Do you know how education in Texas has been broken by the Christofacist cunts driving our state into the ground, to the point that whole generations of Texans now have had biased, one-sided textbooks and curricula for years and genuinely sometimes don’t have any resources except “taxes and gays bad, Jesus good”? Do you know how hard people have been working to organize around this anyway, for years and years?
Do you know how many rich cunts like Elon move to Texas or put business headquarters there because they don’t want to pay California taxes? And then vote to keep in power anyone who’ll keep those taxes low because money is literally all that matters to them? Do you know about how they lobby to strip all social welfare programs, and refuse to expand Medicaid so working-class families spend all their time trying to make ends meet to pay for healthcare, and can’t ever afford it?
Do you know how these people being in power for the last twenty years has led to a state led by an oligarchy of rich conservatives who gleefully whip up hatred against immigrants and queer people to cover the fact that they’re draining the state of resources, and they’ve pulled every string possible to make the rest of the population stupid and desperate and locked into prosperity gospel and boostraps bullshit so they take it out on the marginalized? Do you know how hard people work to organize around that anyway?
I am so goddamn sick of people saying Texans choose this. A lot of Texans do, sure, because for twenty years the state legislature has worked damn hard to make sure they don’t know any better. But we can’t Just Vote™ our way out of what’s been done to this state for the last twenty years. It is a long fucking project and I wish to GOD people would look at this state and say “this is so deeply fucked, how can we help stop this” instead of “this is so deeply fucked, you people chose this.”
Honestly, blaming the South for their elected leaders reeks of classism. “You choose this so live with it!” No, the people who are suffering are entirely disenfranchised.
They’re not stupid. They’re not ignorant of politics. They’re not lazy.
They cannot vote.
Gosh, I wonder why Democrats have such a hard time making inroads in a state which has been majority-minority since 2006 and has some of the worst income inequality in the nation? I wonder if might have anything to do with this “LOL you deserve your own oppression, yokel” horseshit that’s so prevalent among the White middle class liberals– i.e., pro-authoritarian centrists– issuing enlightened proclamations from nice neighborhoods in comfortably Blue and comfortably wealthy states.
Why do Texans keep voting for nazi shitbags like Abbot and Patrick and Paxton, the most corrupt AG in the country? THE MAJORITY OF US DON’T, THANK YOU. There were ~22million adults in Texas in 2022; 17.7million were registered voters, and only 8.1million voted in the midterms. The first thing Republicans do when they take over a state is begin restricting voting access, and the motherfuckers have had over twenty years to work at it… and Biden still got within six points of Dipshitler in 2020. Biden would have won a fair election. But hell, don’t take my word for it–
The sheer number of assholes in New York and California who gloated with masturbatory glee while Texas froze to death during Abbott’s Blackout really was a mask off moment, wasn’t it? Y’all made it perfectly clear that you aren’t looking for social justice, or even meaningful political change, you just want someone weaker than you so you can feel big by punching down. With allies like this, who the fuck needs actual nazis?
Three of my favorite B level slasher characters: The Phantom (from The Town that Dreaded Sundown), Harry Warden (My Bloody Valentine) & the Prowler (The Prowler).
The steam hammer was developed in 1839 by the Scotsman James Nasmyth (also spelt Naysmyth, 1808-1890). Coming in a wide range of dimensions, the steam-powered machine was used to forge and shape very large pieces of metal for industrial use. Nasmyth made a fortune from an invention which became crucial to the larger engineering projects of the Industrial Revolution.

I’m not a gamer myself, but the very idea of getting to play as Leatherface chasing after a bunch of pesky, trespassing teenagers with a chainsaw might just be enough to make me one.
