After a few days watching movies I had not seen before it is time to revisit and old favorite, 1985′s Re-Animator. Loosely based on one of H.P. Lovecraft’s macabre tales this is basically a riff on Frankenstein with a mad medical student determined to bring the dead back to life. What results is an interesting take on the idea of the living dead with his revivified subjects retaining remnants of personality depending on how long they had been dead and many reacting violently to being brought back. It’s a lot of fun capped off with a stellar performance by Jeffrey Combs as Herbert West.
