Love is in the air, so grab your cuddle buddy! 🐢🦭🏝️💕 Found throughout the Hawaiian archipelago, the Hawaiian monk seal (Monachus schauinslandi) spends about two-thirds of its time at sea. However, this pinniped also loves to sunbathe, sometimes “hauling out” onto the beach for days at a time to soak up some rays and rest.
The green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas) can definitely relate: this marine reptile has been observed basking on the sand for up to 48 hours at a time! Basking in the Sun helps this cold-blooded turtle regulate its body temperature. But of course, nothing beats a good cuddle puddle. Hawaiian monk seals and green turtles can often be found together, snoozing side-by-side on the same beaches, sharing body heat and enjoying the vibes.
