🕯 IMBOLC 🕯 Tomorrow marks the halfway point between the Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox. Imbolc (Candlemas in the Christian tradition) is an earth-based holiday observed Feb 1-2 in celebration of the coming return of Spring. The earth feels a little warmer, the sun shines a little brighter, and new life quickens in the soil. Imbolc is an archetype of purity, growth, renewal, new beginnings, fertility and abundance. Fire, representing the life-giving force of the sun, is an important part of traditional Imbolc celebrations. Bonfires, a fire at the hearth or candles lit on an altar are all a beautiful way to celebrate the return of the light after the darkest days of winter. Wishing you all blessings this sacred day 🔥 Artwork: The Earl King’s Daughter, Jessie Bayes (1878-1970.)
Eleven states require automakers sell a certain percentage of zero-emissions vehicles by 2025. If they canât, the automakers have to buy regulatory credits from another automaker that meets those requirements â such as Tesla, which exclusively sells electric cars.
Itâs a lucrative business for Tesla â bringing in $3.3 billion over the course of the last five years, nearly half of that in 2020 alone. The $1.6 billion in regulatory credits it received last year far outweighed Teslaâs net income of $721 million â meaning Tesla would have otherwise posted a net loss in 2020.
Teslaâs Business Model Isnt Selling Cars
tesla being a running dog for big oil is so on the nose I could vomit
Do⌠do people. Not understand what this is really about?
The federal government is pushing electronic vehicles, green and environmental policies, FAR in excess of consumer demand. This makes Tesla, one of the leading producers of green cars, have a very interesting problem.
They HAVE The zero emission credits that everyone wants, but no profit in selling cars because most people may talk a bit green game but they want dumbfuck SUVâs.
This means those tax credits, things that the government MADE to be transferable, one of the most valuable commodities that TESLA has, so they can, and do, sell them to other manufacturers, to offset their emissions. It still leads to a more environmentally friendly system, as emissions ARE going downâŚ
But you fuckers just go âoh but oil people are maybe getting away with something! DOWN WITH PEOPLE!â
fucking just. Learn goddamn basic public policy. This isnât even the first time Iâve had to say âThis is all that will happen when you do these kinds of tax creditsâ and you idiots didnât listen, now youâre offended that the thing you pushed has the result you didnât want to be told about.

whoa itâs almost as if markets are unable to address situations that require long-term planning (like say, averting climate change)

the decline in emissions has nothing to do with the tax credits being transferable, which exclusively acts to allow companies to evade incentives which are theoretically in place to encourage them to shift their production to electric cars.

do you think people criticize âoil peopleâ because they object to people in general. is that something you genuinely believe.

actually what i pushed for was global communism. is didnât push for any weak-ass tax credits and i certainly didnât push for tax credits to be transferable.
thereâs a strange double-think going on here tho where you (falsely) claim that the far-left (as in people like me and op, not dumbass obama dems) has been pushing hard for transferable carbon tax credits, and we are stupid for doing so, while also claiming that these transferable carbon tax credits have, in fact, been successful at reducing emissions? so i guess if you believe that this does in fact lead to a more environmentally friendly systemâŚâŚ youâre welcome?
although again, neither myself nor op has ever pushed for carbon tax credits, let alone transferrable ones, so i guess instead you should thank the centrist libs who pushed for that as a weak gutless compromise, if you think theyâre so effective.
but who knows, perhaps there is some post iâm missing where communists say âgolly gee i sure love carbon tax creditsâ and you sagely explain the folly of their ways, but iâm just not seeing it around.
Republican politics of increased suffering strikes again. And again.
Hey @liberalsarecool, donât you dare exempt your disgusting oligarchic austerity party of yours too, theyâre just as culpable. Donât pretend like people like noted Segregationist Joe Biden didnât expand mass incarceration, the Patriot Act, and cause so many deaths of despair from making laws causing student debt to follow you after bankruptcy. The party of $600 is enough. Fuck you.
@liberalsarecoolâ I appreciate that youâre angry, but keep in mind: the Dems happily passed an increased military budget (the same military that was made for reactionary politics, whose members are openly fascist, whose leaders are doing the work of oligarchs) but made a zillion TURTLE MAN BAD excuses about why they werenât going to give us $2k each.
This isnât just a Republican issue. This isnât the system broken. This is the system working.
People in this thread are upset with you because your post suggests you almost get it, but veer off at the last second. Itâs not cowardice, but itâs like, poverty of political imagination.
I veer off the âboth sides are badâ active measures narrative because I believe one side is worse. Trump dismantled a pandemic response team left by Obama. The Democratic House has passed hundreds of bills that would have made a difference in so many ways that were killed by Mitch/GOP.
You can hate on me. Doesnât really get much done. Send me your pamphlets.
Maybe this is the cynic in me, and letâs be honest, thereâs a lot to be cynical about. Maybe the Democratic House passed those bills exactly because they knew the GOP and McConnell would kill those bills. Democrats are always âwe did our bit, itâs not our faultâ As @soul-hammer notes, Democrats had no trouble siding with the GOP to pass another bloated military budget and they had absolutely no trouble siding with the GOP to block $2k payments to Americanâs. Pelosi all but admitted she hindered the stimulus payments before the election to help Biden, and even halved the $1,200 pre-election stimulus to $600 post election, because Democrats really donât care about you, it was just about getting a blue fascist back in the White House, and returning things to ânormalâ; more wars of aggression, more blocking Medicare for all, more corporate welfare, more surveillance state, more persecution. Republicans may be worse, but the gap really ainât that big either!
@liberalsarecool Iâm not âhating on you,â Iâm stating fact. Iâm trying to be kind to you, because you donât have power in this situation and youâre not a fascist. I donât see the point in being cruel to libs online. You are not the real subject of my ire. If I were being mean, youâd know.
Biden is demonstrating what Obamaâs âpandemic responseâ would have looked like, and itâs almost identical to Trumpâs. I mean, if his website is anything to go by. Which, to be fair, itâs not, because campaign sites are worth the paper theyâre printed on. Itâll probably be far paltrier.
The Democrats were so pants-pissingly scared of a social democrat winning their primary that they made my elderly parents go vote in the middle of a fucking pandemic. Howâs that foe âbelieving in the scienceâ? Howâs that for a âpandemic responseâ? I donât even buy the âharm reductionâ argument any more. Very few leftists were born radicals. Most of the ones I knew grew up in conservative or liberal households. We heard all the arguments youâve heard.
If the GOP and Mitch werenât there, the Dems would not pass those bills. Mitch plays a convenient heel, an excuse Democrats have as to why they wonât get anything done. Want to know how I know? Look at how single payer bills were treated in California. Democratic supermajority, many people running on single payer. They get into power, suddenly they do jack shit. While a single state is not a law of the land, it truly tells you something about how Democrats run their cities. Without Mitch and his gang of rapacious ghouls, they stop playing at giving a shit about us. Ask another Obama alum and true-vote-blue city official, Rahm Emanuel.
Even if you had a Democrat who wanted full communism now but for whatever reason decided to work within extant structures of bourgeois democracy, their will would be subsumed. A machineâs function is what it does, it does what itâs built to do, and the driver does not matter. In this case our system was built to find new and creative legal justifications to put boots on workersâ necks.
