A single mom returns to her home town with her son to take care of her abusive father, now paralyzed from a stroke.  Her son almost drowns in the same lake her three aunts drowned as children decades previously.  The kid is haunted/possessed by their ghosts/revenants until Mom and her doctor friend lure an elderly man to his death.

The human drama was the high point, with Graversen forgetting this was a horror novel for long stretches. She doesn’t seem to know what to do with the sisters other than make the kid sneak away from his adult supervision, a device which is used something like twenty times.

Police: Walk faster

-Baby, I have heels on, how will I walk? I’ll walk slowly.

From Pride Parade Istanbul🌈

this beautiful woman used her privilege to slow down the police in istanbul, since the police are not allowed to touch tourists.

if she wasn’t german and she was turkish, she would’ve been beaten up and taken to the police station violently.

it is embarrassing to see so many police officers walking behind her. but she’s a brave woman to stand up against the police, and keep the parade going.

we love you liana georgi🌈💖💫

Punishment for residential schools elusive under Genocide Convention -

nordic-celt:

“For one, the International Criminal Court only has jurisdiction for crimes committed on or after July 1, 2002, he notes.

And second, Canada excluded the “fifth prong” of [the] Genocide Convention when it incorporated genocide into its Criminal Code in 1970 – purportedly, he says, because “mass transfers of children to another group are unknown in Canada.”

Lysak now views that omission differently given the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc First Nation recently discovering an unmarked children’s graveyard on its traditional territory.

“The fifth prong prohibited by the Genocide Convention is forcibly transferring children of [a national, ethnic, racial or religious] group to another group,” Lysak explains.”

“If you’re going to give me big nonsense, better make it your own big nonsense… Talk nonsense in your own way. That’s almost better than talking sense in somebody else’s. In the first case you’re a man; in the second just a parrot!” — Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Crime and Punishment (via philosophybits)

espanolbot2:

Oh hey, I’d forgotten about this film (which takes place on the ship that first takes Dracula to Yorkshire before wrecking on Whitby beach), neat!

Also Javier Botet (a Spanish actor who specialises in monster roles like in REC., one of the Conjuring films, and IT) is an inspired choice for Dracula. Can’t wait to see how they choose to play him. ^^
